Farmer Bir Dalvinder from Village Kalar Majra says cost and  and pressure from farmers’ unions are a deterrent to more eco-friendly ways of managing crop residue.

The farmers here decided not to burn paddy stubble, instead of that they decided to plough in the soil so that it is good for Delhi atmosphere.

But most of the Punjab farmers do not follow this because it costs around 2000 to 4000 Rs to do the work in Eco-friendly way.

Government is providing tools and equipment to follow the Eco-friendly way dealing the waste residues.

The Benefits of not burning residue is:

  1. Less usage of fertilizers
  2. increased soil fertility
  3. increased crop yield
  4. saves diesel fuel
  5. it saves water also as it does not require pre-sowing irrigation
